Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Classroom IDEAL?

Classroom IDEAL is an Autism Early Intervention Program offered through a partnership between IDEA Public Schools and UTRGV. The program supports eligible kindergarten students through specialized instruction and integrated therapeutic support.

Where will the program be located?

Classroom IDEAL will be housed at IDEA Quest Academy in Edinburg, Texas. 14001 N Rooth Rd, Edinburg, TX 78541

Who is eligible to participate in Classroom IDEAL?

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be entering kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year.

  • Be at least 6 years old.

  • Have a documented medical diagnosis of Autism.

  • Complete the enrollment process and meet all program requirements.

How are students selected?

Seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible students. Once all 45 seats are filled, families may be placed on a waitlist if available.

What makes Classroom IDEAL different from a traditional classroom?

Classroom IDEAL combines specialized instruction and therapeutic services throughout the school day. Students learn in classrooms specifically designed for children with Autism, where educators and therapists work together to support communication, behavior, social development, and academic growth.

What does the classroom model look like?

Students will be served in three specialized classrooms with approximately 15 students per classroom. Each classroom will be staffed by:

  • One Certified Special Education Teacher

  • Two Paraprofessionals

In addition, students will receive support from:

  • A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

  • A Speech-Language Pathologist

  • An Occupational Therapist

Is there a cost to participate?

No. IDEA Public Schools is a tuition-free public charter school, and Classroom IDEAL is supported through a grant-funded partnership with UTRGV.

Will my child receive therapy services?

Yes. Therapeutic supports are integrated into the classroom environment. Therapists work collaboratively with teachers and staff to embed strategies and interventions throughout the school day.

Why is early intervention important?

Research shows that early intervention can help children with Autism build foundational communication, social, behavioral, and academic skills during critical developmental years. Classroom IDEAL is designed to maximize these opportunities through intensive, coordinated support.

Is participation in Classroom IDEAL required?

No. This is an opt-in program. Families choose whether they would like their child to participate in this specialized classroom model.

What happens after kindergarten?

Classroom IDEAL is a one-year kindergarten program. After completing kindergarten, students will transition to the IDEA campus closest to their home. Students will continue receiving services and supports based on their Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Will transportation be provided?

Transportation information will be shared with families during the enrollment process. Families are encouraged to contact IDEA Public Schools for specific transportation eligibility and routes.
